Under the EU's CSRD, your events land in your company's Scope 3 disclosures — and "the agency will send something later" no longer survives an audit. So every Explore Orient proposal states its estimated CO₂e per delegate next to its price, and every delivered event closes with a measured emissions statement.

What we count

A carbon figure is only as honest as its boundary. Ours follows the GHG Protocol's logic for purchased services: everything we stage and move for your programme is in; what exists without your event is out.

Counted in every carbon line

Charters & internal flights
Aircraft type, sector distance and load — the largest line in most Orient programmes.
Ground fleet
Coaches, 4×4 convoys and transfers, by vehicle class and kilometres driven.
Hotel nights
Per room-night, using hotel-industry benchmarks by market and class.
Catering
Covers served, weighted by menu design — a plant-forward gala is measurably lighter.
Event production power
Generators, AV, lighting and temporary structures, by fuel and hours run.
Freight
Sets, vehicles and exhibition material moved for the programme, by mode and weight.

International flights
Added to the carbon line once delegate origin cities are confirmed — never guessed. Many clients book these on own corporate travel programmes and account for them there.

Outside the boundary

Embodied carbon of permanent venues
A palace or convention centre exists whether or not your event happens; we count its operational energy during your hire, not its construction.
Delegate personal activity
Free-time consumption outside the programme.

The numbers behind the number

We calculate, we don't invent. Activity data (kilometres, room-nights, litres, covers) is multiplied by published emission factors — the UK Government's annual GHG conversion factors for transport, fuel and freight; IEA national grid intensities for venue and hotel electricity; hotel-industry benchmarks (HCMI methodology) where a property cannot provide its own metering. Factor sources and versions are named in every statement.

And a commitment: we sell lower-carbon staging, not absolution. We don't bundle offsets, and we will never write "carbon neutral" on a gala. Where a client wishes to compensate residual emissions, we hand over clean data and leave the purchase to their own sustainability team.

The post-event emissions statement

Delivered within 30 days of your event's close, containing:

  • ✦ Final delegate count and the events actually staged
  • ✦ Measured activity data — flight manifests, rooming lists, fuel logs, venue meter readings where the venue provides them
  • ✦ Total and per-delegate tCO₂e, each line marked measured or estimated
  • ✦ Emission factor sources and versions, so your auditors can retrace every figure
